Climate
Cradled close to the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge are shaped by a cool maritime climate. Southerly breezes sweep through parallel mountain ranges, carrying mist and cloud cover into the valley — softening the summer sun and keeping temperatures deliciously even. With an average of 19°C and gentle rainfall around 750mm a year, this is a place where grapes ripen slowly, gracefully, and with natural poise.
The Harvest
Two blocks of Syrah, hand-harvested in the cool hush of early mornings, were picked in two batches through March — each chosen for its unique personality. One block, nurtured under dappled canopy light, brings spice and savoury intrigue. The other, bathed in generous sunlight, delivers bold fruit weight and intensity. Together, they create a Syrah that’s layered, complex, and undeniably seductive.

Winemaking
After overnight cold storage, the Syrah grapes were de-stemmed and gently crushed into red ferment tanks. A slow cold maceration followed: 3 – 7 days of quiet coaxing before fermentation under carefully controlled temperatures. Once dry, the skins were lightly pressed and the young wine laid to rest in a selection of French oak barriques for 16 months of deep maturation. Two months before bottling, the final blend was composed, then left to evolve further in bottle — a graceful pause before release.
Tasting Notes
An elegant cool-climate Syrah that seduces with soft plum, dark cherry, and a whisper of spice — think pepper, cinnamon, cloves and crushed coriander. The palate is lush and full, broad on entry with rich, dark fruit.
